GLITZ AND GLAMOUR CAME ALIVE ON THE RAMP WITH PAYAL SINGHAL’S DAZZLING COLLECTION AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2018

Mumbai, 3^rd February 2018: Payal Singhal’s collection for Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 revolved around her mythical muse “Saira” whose name was the title of the glamorous display.

Tracing Saira’s journey through Roman, Byzantine and Persian influences on Islamic design, Payal merged the patterns, techniques, prints, motifs and colours to showcase an exotic look that was generously dipping in the beauty of history.

The ensembles had inspirations of Islamic art from Turkey, Morocco, Persia, Mughal India, Iran and Afghanistan. The beauty of the popular jaali, filigree and antique embroidery was cleverly splashed on the regal garments.

The stylishly constructed lehengas, dhoti saris, kurtas and jackets glistened on the catwalk with Kasav, Mukaish, Fardi, zardosi and filigree work. Payal opted for luxurious silk, Jamavaars, brocades and then added sheer organza and tulle for a feminine, seductive accent.

Payal’s favourite drop crotch silhouette appeared for draped dhotis, which were glamorously teamed with bias cut off- shouldered, mini, ponchos. The minutely detailed filigree on the lehengas, micro cholis and sheer dupattas defied imagination as the inspirations of the artistic influences appeared lavishly on the creations.

The colours spread a rich carpet, as jewel tones of rose, blue and mint were combined with navy, violet and black.

The eye-catchers were the stone organza kurta with embroidered yoke worn with brocade bustier and salwars with scalloped embroidered georgette dupatta. The cutwork-embroidered yoke and tassel on the shoulder of the grey silk jumpsuit was an interesting addition.

Pretty silk cutwork, embroidered cape with scallops and low crotch pants brought in innovative look to the Indian creations. Lehengas were layered, while cholis often had long embellished yokes. The chidiya embellished short kurta worn again with drop crotch pants had a great Indo-west fusion appeal. The jaali work on yokes, cropped palazzo pants and ornate tulle jackets added to the feminine look of the collection.

The absolutely gorgeous Aditi Rao Hydari, fresh from her block buster film ‘Padmavaat’ success glided down in an ivory silk, fully embroidered lehenga, choli and dupatta to end this very ultra-glam line that was ideal for bridal splendour.

Payal Singhal’s “Saira” collection was a gorgeous study in luxurious fashion that recreated the beauty of a bygone era and its art.

Keeping up with the beauty trend of “Nudes Reinvented” for this season, Lakmé Makeup Expert Daniel Bauer created an earthy, bronzed look for this show. Use of deep, brown tones from the Lakmé Absolute Nude Beach Eye shadow Palette on the eyes, the soft brown shades from the Nudes collection on the lips and the statement eyebrows, completed the look.
