Cricketing Legend Sunil Gavaskar unveils Ghazal Mestro Pankaj Udhas' new album - 'Khamoshi Ki Aawaz'

Mumbai, 7th November 2014: Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar will unveil a new album, ‘Khamoshi Ki Aawaz’ of Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas at Courtyard Level 1, Phoenix Marketcity , Kurla on Friday 7th November 2014. Well known artist from the music fraternity such as Bhupendra Singh, Anuradha Paudwal, Kavita Paudwal, Salim Arif, Kavita Seth, Penaz Masani, Ravi Chary, Pooja Gaitonde, and family of Pankaj Udhas, wife Farida Udhaas, and daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas also graced the event.

Pankaj Udhas has dedicated this album to the finest Urdu poetry, most soft, subtle and musically sensitive work which has amazingly soothing effect. It has a very contemporary sound which is a rare combination of traditional poetry woven into a unique musical ensemble which would be loved by both the ghazal aficionado and the youth.

This album consists of six ghazals of the renowned Urdu poets including Mirza Ghalib, Ahmed Faraz and the very sensitive Parveen Shakir - all well known for their 'Ahsas' along with one Nazm by Ajay Pande, which is an outstanding piece of poetry in the same groove.

Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla will also host the Pankaj Udhas live concert on Saturday, 8th November 2014, 7 pm onwards wherein he will perform a few pieces from this album along with his favorite ghazals from the 33 years in the music industry.

Pankaj Udhas has recreated this wonderful sentiment of listening to poetry set in some very rare Indian ragas, bringing out the nuances of the phenomenon of the 'Ahsas' element, which is something that cannot be translated from Urdu poetry but can only be felt.

“Khamoshi Ki Aawaz plays the most touching songs in one's mind and heart. They don't require high decibels but are like a flowing brook with subtle sounds that carry one to a level of a trance” said Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas'.
Khamoshi Ki Aawaz is totally different from his previous albums in terms of sound and poetic content but it has the trademark Pankaj Udhas effect which every ghazal fan has loved for over three and a half decades.

Pankaj Udhas deserves credit for making ghazal popular at a time when it was losing its foothold over the masses. Today, amidst the cacophony of fast and pop music, he has proved that the ghazal can still charm music lovers the world over and that music is not what is churned out of machines but that which emerges from an artist's soul. His foray into films gained a lot of popularity with the ever popular “Chitthi Aayee Hai” from the film “Naam”, bringing tears to every music lover's eyes. He has given music lovers some amazing songs which will remain in their hearts for time immemorial.
