What happens when you get the best comedians together under one roof? It's called NEW STUFF!
On Monday Night, 4 November 2013 : Vasu Primlani, Sorabh Pant, Ashish Shakya, Atul Khatri, Azeem Banatwalla, Sahil Shah, Sapan Verma & Rayen Pandey dishing out their latest material that's gonna leave you laughing and maybe even crying for more!
Vasu Primlani
Vasu Primlani’s pioneering stand‐up comedy is based on a scintillating look at life through the environment, based on her work in the United States, very strong social commentary, inter personal relationships, seeing India through new eyes (including how George Bush is like her mother), gender politics, men vs. women, climate change, environmental messaging, politics in a social context, a literary look at comedy, and experiences of an immigrant bumping into the culture and the laws of the United States. She is a keen observer of life around her, is often baffled by meaningless events and things. She constantly questions the notion of ‘normal’, and challenges the male-dominated and heterosexist mindset of society. She is best known for her physical humor and deadpan expressions.
Daniel Fernandes
Daniel said goodbye to a career in advertising to do comedy full-time because let’s face it, this is more fun. No really, it is. He is a regular at comedy venues across the country and loves cats, dogs and snakes (we’re not kidding). Some of his material is said to be funny while the rest is just used to kill time on stage. He is petrified of the front row and rarely picks on people on Mondays. As far as the list of ‘Top 5 Comedians in India to watch out for’ is concerned, he’s not on it, mostly because that list does not exist! You should stop reading this and buy a ticket now!
Sorabh Pant
Sorabh Pant is “one of India’s top comedians” according to The Times Of India, Hindustan Times, Mid-Day and himself. He’s done over 350 shows in 30 cities across 7 countries including tours with Rob Schneider and Wayne Brady. Though, he’s done them only for the frequent flier miles. His comedy special, “Traveling Pants”, plays monthly and exclusively at Canvas Laugh Factory – so, come watch it and travel across the world, India and his pants! He’s also the founder of India’s busiest comedy company, The East India Comedy that, “Imports Indian comedy from India to Indians”.
Ashish Shakya
Ashish Shakya is a writer, stand-up comedian and humour columnist, with seven years of work experience. On the TV front, he’s worked with brands that include MTV, Channel V, Bindass and SAB TV, having written stand-up, sketches, magazine-style shows and reality TV. As of now, he has been co-writing the hit news comedy show ‘The Week That Wasn’t with Cyrus Broacha’ on CNN-IBN for about five years (250+ episodes and counting)He also has a weekly humour column with the Hindustan Times, titled ‘The Blunder Years’, wherein he expounds on everything from Pakistan to the futility of politics and online dating and everything in between. With more than a 100 stage appearances under his belt, Ashish is also one of India’s finest young stand-up comedians. Following a series of open mics and pub gigs, Ashish earned himself a recurring spot at the prestigious Canvas Laugh Factory, Mumbai, and was one of the first Indians to get picked for their roster.
Atul Khatri
Atul Khatri is a 40+ guy, we’re talking about his age not IQ. A Mumbai based businessman who got up late in life and decided to do English Standup comedy so that he could tick it off his own personal bucket list. An Indian Computer Engineer and a British Mgmt. scholar who always orders soup one by two even when he is eating alone. He is from a decent double income two kids and strictly no sex family. In his spare time he loves to dig his nose for gold hoping that one day a diamond solitaire will emerge which he can eventually gift it to his wife. He was one of the 3 finalists in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival contest which was held in Delhi recently .
Azeem Banatwalla
Azeem Banatwalla is an engineer-turned-writer-turned-comedian-turned-24. Having written for publications encompassing travel, humour, lifestyle, sport, and technology, he is the proverbial jack of all trades, and master of puns. He’s currently a travel writer, who enjoys embarking on exotic vacations and epic road trips (not including driving home from work every day).
Sahil shah
Sahil Shah is a muscular, tall and incredibly handsome comedian, in his dreams. He is known for his unstoppable puns and mental taxation. He is one of the founding members of the East India Comedy and his off-center one liners have taken his comedy across the country, with shows in over 8 cities. He’s considered one of India’s most promising young comedians… Honestly…God Promise.
Rayen Pandey
Rayen Panday, born and raised in Holland is fresh off his one-man show. It had always been a secret wish to do comedy, when he did his first open mic in 2008. He was approached there to audition for the Student Cabaret Festival, where he won the personality award in the finals of that same year. After that he began performing more often and started performing in different TV shows as well as writing for a talk show and a comedy show in Holland. In 2011 he started doing theatre, resulting in his first one man show, performing all across Holland. Since then he also has performed more and more in English abroad. He has performed in Denmark, the United States, Aruba, Estonia, Surinam, France, Belgium and Curacao. An incredible singer as well, he has the entire package.
Sapan Verma
Sapan Verma Touted as ‘A favorite among the youth’ by Bangalore Times, Sapan Verma is a comedian and writer with the East India Comedy. He has written generation-ruining shows for Channel V, NDTV Good Times, UTV Bindass, and several lesser channels he’s too ashamed to name. As a comedian, he has performed across all major cities in India, at several auditoriums, pubs, college festivals and corporate shows. While most comics rehearse before their show, he spends that time setting his hair.
