Mumbai, 19th November 2015: Armed with songs from the heart of India, backed by powerful vocals, coupled with the ubiquitous traditional Rajasthani garb and an infectious smile, Mame Khan is a name to reckon with in the Indian Folk & Sufi music fraternity. A member of the Manganiyar tribe, Mame Khan belongs to the land of sandunes, Jaisalmer and comes from a long, illustrious lineage of singers all entrenched in the Manganiyari singing tradition. He also happens to be the first Manganiyar singer to have successfully launched a crowd-funded album titled “Desert Sessions”. Watch this powerhouse performer enthrall Mumbai with his singing prowess exclusively at the 5th edition of High Street Phoenix’s big-ticket, monthly music property AWESTRUNG on 27th November 2015, 6.30 pm onwards.

The crystal lit Courtyard of High Street Phoenix will resonate with some of Mame Khan’s most popular songs - Chaudhary, Nimbura, Mast Qualandar, Chhap Tilak, Baware, Jugni, Bulla, Lolee, Jhir Mir along with some of his Bollywood hits and tracks from his latest album Desert Sessions. The album is a great selection of seven special songs, titled - Saawan, Kesariya Balam, Moomal, Krishna, Lolee, Bullah and Bichhudo which have been made straight from the heart of Rajasthan inducting Rajasthani folk, sufi and Krishna Bhajan. These songs create a universe of color and emotions that talk about love, under the stars in Courtyard for a delightful evening of mischief and hope.

The mood for the evening will be set by ethnic sufi outfit Alif who will be performing on fusion music with Urdu and Kashmiri lyrics. Alif comprises Hardik Vaghela on Keyboard, Savio Sebastian on lead Guitars, Amit Gadgill on Bass, Karan Chitra Deshmukh on Percussions/Drums, Mohammad Muneem on Lead Vocals.

Joining Mame Khan on stage at High Street Phoenix will be Amol Dangi on keyboard, Priyank Krishna on Saxophone, Dada Khan on Tambura, Roshan Khan on dholak, Dare Khan on the rare, signature instrument Kamaycha, Langa Folk artists Samsu Khan and Idu Khan on the Sindhi Sharangi and the Algoza (double flute -another Rajasthani special) respectively and Amin Khan on yet another signature instrument - the Katal (wooden castaganettes).

The Manganiyar community is known for being a travelling community of musicians, and the preservers of oral narratives, with their songs traversing through the wide expanse of variety from singing about local kings to community events. Mame Khan’s family can trace their lineage back to fifteen generations of performers, who have been singing folk and sufi songs in that tradition.
