Make your way to High Street Phoenix for their mega monthly music property AWESTRUNG to hear live experimental electronica producer and composer Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator, the upcoming music composer Achint & The Shalimar Orchestra and the three piece electro- rock band- Laxmi Bomb. You may have a whole bunch of calls to make and messages to send with the ticket-free entry we are offering along with a sumptuous range of craft beer from the taps of The White Owl for the audience and spectators at Courtyard from 7 pm to 10 pm during the event.
A property that started in early 2015, AWESTRUNG, in association with Pepsi MTV Indies, Furtados and Radio Mirchi, has been instrumental in bringing diverse genres of music and some of the country’s finest musicians, closer to the masses every last Friday of the month.
After releasing his second album, Donn Bhat along with his band Passenger Revelators became one of the few Indian bands to perform at Glastonbury last year who joined the list of a few Indian acts like Shaa'ir & Func and The Raghu Dixit Project, who have performed at the many decades-old festival that has witnessed major global artistes.
Donn Bhat wrote and produced his first solo album "One Way Circle" at his home studio in Delhi in 2006. Since then his music has been featured on various platforms including the MTV TV series titled Bring on the Night. In 2011 he was featured as the BBC Artist of the month on the Bobby Friction show aired in the UK. He has managed to create a unique space in India’s growing Independent music industry being the only live act that blends Rock, Psychedelic, Fusion, Folk, DnB and Electronica. He has been said to fuse alternative rock and electronica to write songs that are unmistakably coated with soul.
Achint Thakkar, formerly the frontman of psychedelic rock band Rosemary, that called it quits in 2011, launched his second ten track album ‘Shalimar’ which got an amazing response. Since Rosemary's disbanding in 2011, Thakkar pursued a course in music production at Pyramind in San Francisco, California. While at Pyramind, he learnt the finer aspects of music production techniques and composition whilst still continuing to write music for short films and ad jingles.
‘Shalimar’ is a blend of trend & tradition. Combining electronic grooves with poems by the 17th century sufi poet, Bulleh Shah, thick basslines with folk music & synthesizers with classical music. The record features some extremely talented musicians including A.R. Rahman’s flautist, Naveen Kumar, singer Neeti Mohan, rapper Blaaze & folk musicians from Rajasthan, Bhutte Khan & Multan Khan. The album is entirely produced by Achint himself, mixed by Grammy winning mixing engineer P.A Deepak at A.R.Rahman’s A.M.Studio in Chennai and mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios, London. Achint’s music could be described as a hybrid of sorts, heavily influenced by the culture of the Indian subcontinent and western aesthetics of composition and production. You can expect to hear glimpses of sounds from different parts of the world including Brazil, China, Africa, Turkey etc. coupled with electronic arrangements.
Mumbai based electro-pop band Laxmi Bomb that describes itself as love-child of the 90's and your latest fling. The band popularised in 2014 post their two famous EPs- 'H(OM)' and Mah'Bharat', which is an extension to the 'H(OM)' EP, and is a pure amalgamation of east and west influences. The band was formed in 2013, when Levin and Keegan teamed up for a project. The “reggae-disco-rock-Bollywoodish” sound it came up with proved to be a winner and today, the band’s sound is described as “a blend of Bollywood film music of the 1990s with contemporary electronica”. Reggae Rasiya and Major are among its best known numbers. Two members of the band Levin Mendes (songwriter/drummer) and Ruell Baretto (bass) are already known veterans in the scene, since they are also involved with reggae/hip-hop band Bombay Bassment. The other members of the band are Keegan Pareira (vocalist) and Joaquim Fernandes (keys).
