Bringing back the flavours of sushi and foot‐tapping music from cultural streets of Japan, High Street Phoenix has announced the dates for the annual Cool Japan Festival here in Mumbai. The 5th edition of Cool Japan Festival will be held on 6th and 7th February 2016 at Courtyard of High Street Phoenix.
Like every year, maidoindia (Maido Enterprises Pvt. Ltd.) which is in the business of bringing Japan closer to India through food, art and culture will be organizing the event in association with High Street Phoenix for the fifth consecutive year.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra Kalkar, President (West), The Phoenix Mills Limited said, “Cool Japan Festival has become synonymous to our location. Each year, we bring a plethora of activites and cultural performances to our stage from Japan with the help of Maido India.”
“This year our theme will be ‘Let's learn about Japan’ where we hope that the visitors will be able to learn more and appreciate Japanese culture, products, and services. We are also excited to get India’s Top Designer Narendra Kumar ‐ Cool Japan Festival’s Brand Ambassador ‐ to welcome Miss World Japan 2015, to this year’s event” commented Mr. Hakuei Kosato, Director of Maido Enterprises Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Yoshiaki Ito, the Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai which is supporting this year’s event said “The Cool Japan Festival started in 2012 as part of the 60th Anniversary of India‐ Japan relations. This festival introduces Japan to the people of Mumbai through technology, food culture, animation and much more. It is a fantastic event, as a new festival for the people of Mumbai, and I, like everyone in Mumbai is looking forward to this year's Cool Japan Festival”
Cool Japan Festival 2016 is also supported by JETRO Mumbai, Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nissin Cup Noodles, Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd, Ricoh, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Kirin Holdings.
Known as the biggest Japanese event of India, ‘Cool Japan Festival’ draws over 100,000 footfalls every year and sees participation from 25‐30 Japanese companies during the event.

Attractions at the Cool Japan Festival 2016 :
ERINA MATSUI :
A popular Japanese singer, TV actress and entertainer in Japan! Her debut song was the popular theme song called B‐Bird for “Gundam” which is a famous science fiction Japanese animation.Besides singing and entertaining the audience, Erina Matsui will also be signing autographs and clicking photographs for free at Cool Japan Festival 2016.

MISS WORLD JAPAN 2015 :
Chika Nakagawa who was crowned as the winner of Miss World Japan 2015 be the special guest at Cool Japan Festival 2015.
SPICE MADAMS :
This group of talented Japanese ladies living in Mumbai enjoy dancing on Bollywood numbers and will be performing live at Cool Japan Festival 2016.
KARATE :
Indian kids will demonstrate a Japanese style of Karate at Cool Japan Festival 2016.
JAPANESE SCHOOL KIDS :
A treat to the eye to watch cute Japanese kids performing on the stage. Japanese kids from the Japanese School in Mumbai will be performing a traditional Japanese cultural dance on Saturday 6 February 2016. Also, Japanese kids from the American School in Mumbai will be showcasing a dance performance on Sunday 7 February 2016.
COSPLAY FASHION SHOW :
Lovers of Japanese anime (animation), comics and pop culture unite from all over India in the form of a Cosplay Fashion Show at Cool Japan Festival 2016.
KENDO :
Kendo is the ‘way of the sword’. It is a one of the many Japanese martial art forms using bamboo swords and protective armor. The Mumbai Kendo club will be demonstrating this art form at Cool Japan Festival 2016.
TAIKO :
Also known as Wadaiko, Taiko is the indispensable Japanese musical instrument for festivals and religious rituals. The Delhi Wadaiko team will be performing the art of Taiko at Cool Japan Festival 2016!
FOOD :
The F&B zone at Cool Japan Festival 2016 will be selling different Japanese food. The menu planned for the event include the following:
‐ Sushi:
The most popular dish of Japan! By definition, Sushi is cooked vinegared rice combined with any ingredients like seafood, vegetables and sometimes even tropical fruits!
- Donburi:
A Japanese "rice bowl dish" consisting of fish, meat, vegetables or other ingredients simmered together and served over rice.
- Shojin Ryori:
A unique type of vegetarian cooking introduced into Japan together with Buddhism in the 6th century. ‘Shojin’ is a Buddhist term that refers to asceticism in pursuit of enlightenment, and ryori means "cooking."
- Obento:
Japanese style lunch boxes will also be sold at the Cool Japan Festival 2016.
- Dorayaki:
A Japanese sweet consisting the popular Azuki (red bean paste), freshly prepared in India will be available for purchase at Cool Japan Festival 2016.
- Nissin Cup Noodles:
The inventor of Instant Noodles – “Nissin” will be showcasing & selling their unique 4 flavors made for India at the Cool Japan Festival 2016. The 4 flavors include:
o Mazedaar Masala
o Veggi Manchow
o Italiano
o Spiced Chicken
All the food dishes at Cool Japan Festival 2016 can be purchased using coupons available at the event or by buying a special ‘food pass’ which can be purchased in advance on the web.
