Gear up to witness Prem Joshua & Band perform live for the first time at High Street Phoenix’s AWESTRUNG
~The international band plans to launch their new album early next year~
~Filter Coffee to open the act~
Mumbai, 6th December 2016: This month, kickstart your Christmas celebrations with a pre-party at High Street Phoenix on Friday, 16th December 2016 as AWESTRUNG will host two bands that outclass in fusing Indian mus ic with contemporary western, pop and rock music!
Prem Joshua & Band who are known for performing some of the best indo fusion music, will go live on the stage and perform some of their popular songs such as Sky kisses Earth, Secret Place, Shiva Moon, Funky Guru, Luminious Secrets, and others. Pioneers of an eclectic sound drawn from the depth of India’s musical traditions as well as the innovation of contemporary Western music, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Prem Joshua and his international band are a leading light in the world of Indian contemporary music. Unmistakably rooted in Indian Ragas and rhythms, his signature sound embraces a variety of cultures and conventions from across the world. Interweaving rhythms from Morocco with beats from London’s dancefloors, experimenting with Eastern European rhythms and jazz, and splicing together chill- out and sufi verses, his search for synthesis continues to flourish at the meeting point of genres and influences.
The band combines disparate musical styles such as electronica, jazz and funk into an original and virtuoso sound – one that is intricately detailed by a masterful blend of Indian and western instruments. By virtue of their dexterity over numerous instruments, such as the sitar, tabla, soprano sax or bamboo flutes, Prem Joshua & Band have continued to distil and fuse the essence of various musical forms into one organic and distinctive whole. Currently the band comprises of Prem Joshua, (sitar, bamboo flutes, soprano saxophone, vocals), Dondieu Divin (keyboards, vocals), Raul Sengupta, (tabla, darbouka, cajon, congas, percussion, laptops, vocals), Satgyan Fukuda (electric bass, percussion, vocals) and Runa Rizvi (vocals).
To open the act for the International band, the indie band, Filter Coffee will kickstart the show! The 2 year old Mumbai- based band is again a pioneer of Ethnotronics which is a fusion of Ethnic and Electronic music which is Filter Coffee’s own signature brew that offers a new look at Classical/Folk music through a modern electronic perspective. Filter Coffee is the brainchild of Flautist Shriram and Percussionist Swarupa, who organically combine virtuosic improvisation with electronic soundscapes and hypnotic grooves. Having spent the most part of the last two years touring and playing at music festivals around the world the duo also successfully released their debut album “Raagatronic” ranking number one on the iTunes India music charts.
On hosting the monthly musical property Awestrung, Mr. Rajendra Kalkar, President (West), The Phoenix Mills Limited said, “We are delighted to host Prem Joshua and his band at AWESTRUNG and this time around for the very first time we have curated a show that showcases indo fusion world music and Ethnotronics. Awestrung is going to be bigger and better and we look forward to seeing a full house at The Courtyard!
So let your hair down and move your desi thumkas to the Indo fusion music!
