Le Creuset—“the crucible” in French—began creating cast iron cookware over 85 years ago in a foundry in Northern France. The same foundry, in Fresnoy-Le-Grand, that today uses individual sand molds to fashion each and every hand-inspected cast iron kitchen product that Le Creuset sells.
