End the summer with rocking live performances by Indie Music Bands and Artists at AWESTRUNG
~Watch Dhruv Visvanath, F16 and ONEmpire perform some of their tunes~
Mumbai, 18th May 2017: What’s the perfect way to end a happy summer vacation? The answer is AWESTRUNG! Arrive at High Street Phoenix and get set to witness power packed performances opening with Dhruv Visvanath followed by F16 and ONEmpire, only at AWESTRUNG on 26th May, 6.30 pm onwards.
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer- songwriter and the only Indian to be mentioned in Acoustic Guitar Magazine USA’s “30 Great Guitarists under 30” (2014) Dhruv Visvanath’s phrase just happened to be “women fawn over pianists”. His mother’s advice clearly resonated with the seven year old, whose piano classes eventually translated into a love for the guitar. Over the years, and with constant practice, he was able to hone his skills and bring to the sub-continent a unique style of percussive acoustic guitar playing, earning him the nickname ‘Guitar Spanker’. In 2015, the talented New Delhi-based songwriter-singer launched his debut album Orion under Vishal Likes This (VLT)--the new music label launched by music director-singer Vishal Dadlani. He recently did a nation-wide music tour, 'The Lost Cause Tour', in November 2016.
The F16s are an alternative band hailing from the port city of Chennai, India. Their music echoes the melancholia that grapples with the mundanity of everyday life in a town that serves very little outside of itself. Lyrically driven, the 'sound' of the band rests in an arc that also includes acts like LCD Soundsystem, Julian Casablancas and the Voidz and The Horrors; beat-driven yet innately melodic. The band already has a couple of prior releases attached to them: a 6-song EP released in 2013 called Kaleidoscope, and a 2-track recorded in Brooklyn, New York called Nobody's Gonna Wait. The band has now released their debut full-length album, Triggerpunkte; a nine-song offering that was recorded in Chennai and Mumbai for over a year. Both lyrically and musically, the album meanders between reverb-heavy sentimentality and fast-paced assault. Triggerpunkte is a reaction to the bands previous efforts where we explore the bands identity. The outcome is a populist, experimental, healing, agitating, straightforward, highly polished, and multi-layered album which release in August 2016.
Having played thousands of shows together & individually, ONEmpire is a band of 5 musicians coming together to create not just a music-oriented show, but an overall experience! ONEmpire pop – rock music band comprises of Garth (Keys), Gavin (Guitars), Loy (Bass), Atish (Drums) & Zarir (Vocals). Formed from the band, The Other People, The ONEmpire experience now comprises of not just a big audio show, but also a visual show! It includes lights, graphics & visuals coupled with a mix of some of your favourite songs as well as some original compositions, a lot of crowd interaction and not to mention, ALOT of energy!
On hosting the monthly musical property AWESTRUNG, Mr. Rajendra Kalkar, President (West), The Phoenix Mills Limited said, “In the 20th edition of AWESTRUNG, we have decided to go all out and have made a huge investment in building this year’s gig with special effects. We are coming back in the month of September with a bang and bring an extravagant experience to all our music lovers.”
